Overview
The Technological University of the Shannon Midlands Midwest is a public technological university, inaugurated in October 2021. It is the third university established in the Republic of Ireland and resulted from the merger of Athlone Institute of Technology and Limerick Institute of Technology. This merger was facilitated by the Technological Universities Bill, which mandated that multiple institutes collaborate to achieve university status. The university began operations on October 1, 2021, and serves the midlands and mid-west regions of Ireland. It operates across six campuses spread over four counties and three provinces, located in Limerick, Athlone, Thurles, Clonmel, and Ennis.
