Overview
Founded in 1901 by Alexandre Charliat as the Ecole Pratique d'Électricité Industrielle (EPEI), ESIGELEC was officially recognized as a Grandes écoles by the Ministry of Higher Education and Research in 1922. It was authorized to award the Diplôme d'Ingénieur by the Commission des Titres d'Ingénieur in 1936. The institution adopted its current name in 1980 and became a member of the Conférence des Grandes Écoles (CGE) in 1989. In 2011, ESIGELEC partnered with the Institut Mines-Télécom (IMT) and the Groupe des écoles des mines (GEM). Currently, ESIGELEC is a semi-private engineering school overseen by the Ministry of Higher Education and Research and co-managed by the chamber of commerce in Rouen, with five academic departments.
